New FTC Rules on Youtube starts Demonetizing Creators In 2020 | No more Money from Youtube

If you are a youtube content creator or makes videos on youtube for living, then you must read this entire article to know what is happening on youtube. Youtubers must have noticed a notification appearing on their youtube's Dashboard. This change is not only applicable to future uploads but also previous uploads you have made.

Recently, Youtube was fined 170 million dollars by FTC for violating the COPPA act. This Coppa Act is specially made to provide privacy for children under 13 in the United States. But this is also applicable to all the content creators on youtube around the world. This Act states that no Site or online service must track usage details of children under 13 without prior permission with the concern parents or guardian. Since the data collected from them can be used to target personalized ads on these children. This gives Parents a sense of losing their child privacy through the internet.

This new Act on youtube will affect most of the content creators and their youtube Income to a great extend. The Act strongly targets videos and channels hosting Kid based videos.

Youtube or other google service collects various informations like :
1. Videos Watched
2. apps installed on your devices
3. Website you visiter
4. Location.
5. Age
6. Gender.
7. Interaction with previous Ads.

These informations are collected so that they can provide you with personalised ads next time you visit the service of google.

So FTC has targeted these activities to ensure that there will be privacy for children.
which in turn affects most kid based content creators as they earn income from these sort of videos.

You mark all videos with this new setting whether they are targeted for kids or not.

You can do this in two ways:

1. Video Level :  Only that particular video must be marked as "Made for kids".You can do this by going to Youtube Studio - Videos - Select a video - Edit - Audience, then mark the video appropriatly.

If you are going to apply for new video, then you will be prompted to do at the upload options itself.

2. Channel Level: If all of your videos in your channel is kids based then you can do it by going to Youtube Studio - Settings - Channel - advanced settings -then mark the video appropriatly.

How to know if my videos are meant for kids ?

If your video has these factors then they must be classified as Kids based videos.
1. Subject of the video
2. Your Audience.
3. if it includes Child Actors or modals.
4. Toys , Poems , Child play, Stories etc.

Is it necessary to mark my videos?

Yes, it is important . If you don't follow it then you might get a severe problem in the future on your videos and channel. If you failed to do then youtube's AI machines will do that, which doesnt mean that they guarantee 100% accuracy.

What if my videos gets marked wrong ?

Then you can manually change it on the settings. But if it frequently happens then you must report it to youtube by clicking on "Sent feedback" option.

What will happen to my videos if it is marked as Made for Kids ? 

1. Comments will be disabled.
2. No more Personalized ads.
3. No Info Cards.
4. No End screens.
5. No bell notification.
6. Decrease in Revenue.
